Columbia Sustainability Consultants was conceived at Columbia University during the undergraduate careers of Jared Talkin and Mason BenYair. During this time it became our vision to create a unique firm, pooling the knowledge of top experts in order to provide our clients with the most innovative solutions. Our firm specializes in many areas related to sustainability, which is made possible by our diverse international roster of distinguished faculty and professionals.
Jared Talkin is a graduate of Columbia University’s Sustainable Development program and is currently working on his MS in Sustainability Management at Columbia University. He has executive and managerial experience in a number of industries including the commercial organic agriculture sector, food and beverage industry and residential construction. Jared is also an experienced GIS analyst, having worked for NASA at the Center for International Earth Science Network (CIESIN), with a focus on the Gridded Population of the World (GPW) project. He has also worked as a freelance journalist in Greece and China, and is attributed with multiple publications in China, Greece and The United States.
Mason BenYair is a graduate with honors of Columbia University’s Sustainable Development program with a concentration in environmental engineering. Bringing more than 10 years of experience in financial analysis to his work, he has focused on identifying systemic improvements to existing environmental frameworks. His work at Columbia has included the development of a nutrient recycling system to address the problem of eutrophication as it relates to runoff farm pollutants and a pyrolysis system to address the issue of organic waste with the potential to utilize this waste as a resource. For his thesis, "Deep Sea High Pressure Desalination,” Mason designed a prototype for a low-cost, low-energy desalination system which can reduce the cost of desalination by up to 90% and has the potential to revolutionize the fundamental processes of the industry.
